Also out in the last four weeks, the 5th installment in CAVE's excellent DonPachi series, the not-quite-as-good-as-expected (though still pretty decent) Mafia III, and the somewhat-surprisingly-great Shadow Warrior 2. "This Halloween, terror has a new game." Jump past the break to see more new October releases.
Sorry again about the lack of posts this month. We shall endeavor to do better. The most notable title this week has to be the Friday-the-13th-inspired, Minecraft-styled strategy-puzzler, Slayaway Camp. It should come as no surprise that the game was directed by a co-founder of PopCap, as Slayaway Camp would feel right at home next to Peggle or Plants Vs Zombies (except for the graphic, bloody voxel violence). If you're looking for something fun and fresh to sink your machete into this Halloween, look no further.

Well, it's almost here again. Halloween, my favorite holiday of them all. This time of year, I tend to become a little obsessed with the dark, the spooky, and/or the macabre. I like to break out stories by Edgar Allan Poe, or watch movies by Tim Burton or John Carpenter (the original Halloween movie is still one of my favorites). You get the idea.
I love the fact that Halloween falls right on the very last day of October. It basically gives me an excuse to spend the whole entire month getting into the mood and preparing for the big day. In addition to reading stories and watching movies, I also spend that time thinking about costumes and jack-o-lantern designs, and of course, playing video games. There has been an abundance of decent Halloween-related games over the years, going all the way back to Haunted House on the Atari 2600. While I usually don't go back quite that far, here is a list of some of the ones that I do like to play: Bet you thought we were dead, didn't you? Well, we're back! Back from the dead. How appropriate, this being October and all.
This week, the giant smash will no doubt be giant smasher, Titanfall 2. While Titanfall 1 may have never made it over to Sony consoles, that hardly seems to matter now. Its sequel looks to be an improvement in nearly every conceivable way; including single-player, which was essentially nonexistent the last go round. Titanfall 2 actually drops today so be sure to keep your heads up. Also out in the last six weeks, Battlefield 1 (but not really), other previous Xbox exclusive, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and PC timed exclusive, XCOM 2. Stand by for Titanfall. Jump past the break to see more new releases from the past month and a half. For the last couple years, SNK has slowly been releasing some of their classic Neo Geo games onto Steam. 5 months ago, they ported over a fantastic run and gun arcade game called Shock Troopers. This week, they gave us the equally entertaining follow-up, Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad. A few of the features on offer in the sequel include all new characters, slightly more realistic violence, and the ability to drive tanks. If you're a fan of late '90s action arcade games then this one is definitely for you.
Also out in the last two weeks, Remedy's fairly-new time-manipulation game, Quantum Break, a full motion video horror title called The Bunker, and a bishojo rail shooter sequel called Gal*Gun: Double Peace. "Sally out, second squad!" Jump past the break to see more of this past fortnight's new releases. |
