This week, the PS2 version of Capcom's hit Resident Evil game, Code: Veronica, came to PlayStation 4. Released as a console exclusive for the ill-fated Dreamcast in 2000, Code: Veronica was quickly ported to the PlayStation 2 the following year. It has been said that Code: Veronica is actually the legitimate sequel to Resident Evil 2 and was originally intended as such by Capcom (with Resident Evil 3 acting as a side-story). Plot-wise, that certainly makes a lot of sense; and it's no wonder why Capcom would balk at releasing the next numeric installment as an exclusive for an entirely separate platform than they had released the two previous games for. Whatever the case may be, Code: Veronica is an essential component of the Resident Evil storyline that no fan should be without.

This week, the long awaited third (and final) entry in the Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky saga finally came to the West. Originally debuting in 2004, the Trails in the Sky series didn't see release outside of Japan until the popular first entry was finally ported to Western PSPs in 2011, with the second chapter not following until 2015. Though The Legend of Heroes JRPG franchise has been around since the late '80s, it wasn't as widely known before Trails in the Sky.
Also out in the last two weeks, the latest installment to the excellent BlazBlue arcade fighting game franchise, a sequel to the 2015 hack-and-slash Dragon Quest spinoff, and an Arkane Studios developed re-imagining of the 2006 alien shooter, Prey. Discover the Legend of Heroes once more, then jump past the break to see more of this past fortnight's new releases. Welcome back to the New Nintendo eShop Releases! It's been a little while since our last post and, during that time, all three Nintendo systems have received some exciting titles. This week, the most exciting release is none other than the Wii U Virtual Console game, Bonk's Revenge. Revenge, of course, was the sequel to the Turbo-Grafx 16 console mascot classic, Bonk's Adventure. As far as mascot sequels go, Revenge is more of a Sonic 2 than a Super Mario 2, in that it was simply a refinement of everything that worked so well in the original (as opposed to just being totally different and/or more frustrating). Basically, if you liked Bonk's Adventure, you can't go wrong with Bonk's Revenge. Now let's hope that Nintendo brings Bonk 3 to the Wii U as well.
Also out in the last two months, the puzzle juggernaut mashup, Puyo Puyo Tetris, a fun little Mario Sports anthology for the 3DS, and a 1942-inspired shoot 'em up that somehow manages to be superior to its own source material. Bonk is back! Jump past the break to see more new releases from the past 60 days. |
